Sunday’s NYT Magazine had a number of essays on higher education and university level teaching. I am going to read it. I have heard it is very good. I know I should want to read the Chronicle of Higher Education but am I the only one who finds it – well, goody-goody?
Axé.
Perhaps I am very touchy on these issues lately, but I didn’t find this series pleasurable. The fashion slide show grated, especially. I think the article with the phrase “Groucho Marxist” might be the only one I liked.
And on CHE: I find myself on that site only accidentally and then with teeth gritted.
I was not struck by the series.
Kept reading to find a reason to be … ummmm interested.
And I’m with you on The Chronicle … 🙂
Peace,
Ridwan
Well it’s marginally interesting – not interesting enough to read on the Internet – ? I absolutely refuse to watch powerpoint type slides on the internet, or watch people pronounce on video a speech I’d rather just scan. HMMMM.
CHE makes me feel anxious when I read it.
It’s the pressure to conform that its pages breathe, and its penchant for dressing up cliches as new discoveries – and sometimes stupidity as wisdom.
