Fragile

Music for a weekend of grading, while the universities mutate and distribute themselves over crimes. I was just, finally, recovering from having my education stolen, so this is all quite ironic.

I saw it all coming long ago, however, which does show that I am a good trend spotter. This is not  enough satisfaction.

I do not see how they could cut out any program. Everything we have left after the last round of cuts really is essential. Everything I can think of to cut would also cut a revenue stream.

It is said we should contact our state legislators every day and I urge everyone to do so. It will be months before Jindal’s actual budget proposal is submitted, and there is time to change it.

People out of state should also write Jindal, I believe, and ask him nicely to support Louisiana universities by funding them.

Say you admire our institutions and name more than one (public) one. Cite any direct knowledge or personal experience you may have. Let him know the country is watching.

  1. The website for the state of Louisiana isn’t working. I was hoping to be able to send an e-mail to Brer Bobby. Oh well, snail mail it is then.

  2. Thanks, Mike! Snail mail is the most impressive!

Love of life — maybe that is what people don’t like about me? I’m serious, it could be it!

    1. Well, in response to some events from today re this, attempts to hurry the destruction along, one department chair sent a mail to the effect of “I shall not, I shall not be moved.” Them’s fightin’ words.

  3. Jindal is a smart cookie. He’s knows what he’s doing. Check him out:

I can just see the opportunistic gears working in his mind. It’s as if he’s got a head of glass.

Anyway, nice letter written and in its envelope with Aussie stamps affixed. Will place it in the post tomorrow.

  4. Thanks so much, Mike! Yes, he’s very opportunistic, and he believes in Intelligent Design. He thinks he can be nominated for President and he doesn’t care what he destroys along the way. He says, of course, that he’s saving the state … making BR, one of Clio’s hometowns, safe for Exxon 😉 of course.

  5. Jindal is well educated. A Rhodes scholar even. And he ‘believes’ in intelligent design? More opportunism, if you ask me.

  6. Yes but most Rhodes scholars I’ve known are actually un-bright the way he is, or else all opportunistic. That is: they seem to be these B+ type students who worked hard and curried a lot of favor in useful offices and now really do believe their master’s word… for opportunistic reasons originally, but now they believe it… ?

  7. The words, ‘lickspittle’, ‘lap dog’, ‘toady’ and ‘sycophant’ come to mind. But hey, I was happy to get a B+ when I was in school.

  8. 😉 Yes. But one thing I have learned in life is not to trust a Rhodes scholar. Be wary of them for their cunning, but don’t give them special points for intellect!
