♦ It is only the middle of September but the heat broke with Tropical Storm Lee and never fully returned. I am giving two midterms tomorrow. LSU was leading Mississippi State 6-3 at halftime, and it must be fall.
♦ Here is a good and interesting course on film, or history through film, given at Duke in 1999. The film course I am giving now is brilliant, thanks in large part to suggestions from the Spanish Professor’s blog.
♦ I see what we can do for Portuguese next semester: read Stam’s book which I need to do anyway, and see the relevant films which I also need to do. It will be like a study group and it will totally benefit my research and my course preparation for AY 2012-2013.
♦ People appear to believe multidisciplinarity means having illustrations and examples from different media, as in: you read and analyze the novel, see the movie, listen to the song the characters listen to, look at the paintings they have on their walls, and see videos of the dance they like.
♦ I am cooking chicken in coconut milk and red curry, with garlic, peppers, garbanzos, and peas. You can feel the Equinox riding on in. Fall is my favorite season here because the air is dry, but by November I will miss the summer brightness.
Axé.
We are cooks of the same stripe!
I really envy you your current joy in teaching, something I wanted but never got to experience.
I’m still not the best person to have as a lower division student, really!
