There is a problem in my refrigerator that causes condensation and leaking and it was fixed for $81 with a 30 day warranty. After 30 days the problem reappeared; said refrigerator was used when I bought it in 1998.
There are three options — (1) continue to catch the water in a bowl, which is fine if I am at home to empty it or if there is a house sitter, but less fine for a renter and also sort of a pain; (2) repair again, for $81; (3) buy a refrigerator; they are on sale now and you can get a good one for $500-$600 plus tax, and if you pay in cash you get free delivery and haul-away of the old refrigerator.
I have a stove problem, too, that requires repair and I see that there are excellent stoves for sale for $500. But, I need paint and a roof and tree service as well, so spending what I have gathered toward these may not be the best idea.
What would you do? I think I shall first see about the stove, how bad the situation is with it.
Axé.
Big Cheapstake,
You need a new refrigerator and a stove. No question about it. Go ahead and take advantage of sales. As for the other problems, I can help you in one of my trips… Painting is my job and will give you a good price.
Yes – I know. It’s just that I have $1,800 in back bills I am supposed to pay this month with the cash I have in hand – not use it to buy more stuff!
But here’s the stove I think I should get, now $832 instead of $1199:

And here’s the refrigerator, marked down from $745 to $632: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_04678893000P?prdNo=5&blockNo=5&blockType=G5
So I would spend close to $1500 plus tax. We’ll see … with more cash, I’d definitely just do it and not vacillate.
Paint, I’ll take you up on it, but I thought you were a travel agent and writer?
Yes, I am a travel agent and writer but occasionally do home artistic painting on a side when there are good opportunities to make extra money.
Those appliances look good!.
I’ll get you to design some interior painting for me then!
Okey dockey, you’re not much of a cheapskate after all. More of a good planner!.
It’s fun to be called a cheapskate though, because I do live above means – hence the part time BnB business!
And plus, I want a bike. There is a vintage Raleigh on Craigslist but my friend who knows about such things and is usually quite right says, folding bike, internal hub. This is the Citizen Barcelona, which color do you like (ivory fits my house, but green is perhaps more interesting)?
What about this one?. It is all-inclusive !
I think that may be the one available! There’s the Citizen Barcelona, and then the Dahon Ciao D5, going up to $900: http://www.foldingcyclist.com/Dahon-Ciao-D5-folding-bike.html
Or Briza D7 http://www.foldingcyclist.com/Dahon-Briza-D7-folding-bike.html …
And this is the Barcelona, wherein I am voting green. http://www.citizenbike.com/catalog.asp?product_category_id=1&product_id=22
I am looking at some more traditional bikes and thinking those would be the ones I’d buy used versions of. Hmmmmmmmm.
It would be great for you to get a second hand Barcelona green. It is the prettiest and you won’t tell the difference betewen a new brand or second hand in terms of appearance or functioning. But the difference might be good in terms of money. Go ahead and get it!.
