Here is a large plate I finished recently — about 14″ across. At the studio they alleged it was not good enough to keep but I insisted.
When it came out of the kiln at last, I could see why they said it was destined to be flawed. I decided I would give it as a gift to someone less informed than I, and so less critical.
At home, though, it looks like a museum piece from ancient Persia. I am keeping it, and I have named it Hafiz.
Gazal em Louvor de Hafiz
Escuta o gazal que fiz,
Darling, em louvor de Hafiz:
– Poeta de Chiraz, teu verso
Tuas mágoas e as minhas diz.
Pois no mistério do mundo
Também me sinto infeliz.
Falaste: “Amarei constante
Aquela que não me quis.”
E as filhas de Samarcanda,
Cameleiros e sufis
Ainda repetem os cantos
Em que choras e sorris.
As bem amadas ingratas,
São pó; tu, vives, Hafiz!
–Manuel Bandeira 1943
Axé.

Pay no attention to the Philistines.
Correct. And I used that for a post title, and I stole your Planned Parenthood video and put it on Facebook!
