I bought this dress in black, because I saw it in a shop window by chance and knew it was for me. Now I see that it also exists in red. Should I buy it?
Pro:
I already know it is a great dress and that I will really wear it.
Red is the best color on me there is.
Dresses are good.
I will have another piece of a professional wardrobe, and I will not have to shop for it.
Although I have three other red dresses, all are much more casual. With the right tights and so on, I could get away with teaching some kinds of classes in them (the kinds of classes TAs also teach), but I could certainly not go to a meeting above the departmental level in them, or give a talk in them.Con:
Having the same thing in two colors is hokey.
There are always more clothes to buy.
I should save money, or spend it on goods more durable than clothes. There is only so much total cash, and we could have a hurricane.
What do you think? This is its website. Many purchasers bought two, and apparently there were versions in light and dark gray at one time.
UPDATE: Blogger Clarissa has this dress in red.
Axé.

I vote yes. It is beautiful and it is a power dress.
Power dress, that is a good point and I had not thought of it, at least not in those terms. It fits with my theme for the year, too.
Although there is so much to buy. I want a tatami bed frame, for instance, for one bed, and the frame which is there, has been since 1981, and a new mattress for the other, and the futon which has there, has been since 1998.

I see what to do, though: the bed will be the thing I get AFTER the major house repairs, or after I move, or something like that.
Buy it! Then we can appear at some conference together in matching dresses!
I think I’ve had too much coffee. 🙂
I know — I thought of that, too, it would be so funny! Yes, I am going to do it.
I own a dress in two different colors! It’s not a con. The red dress looks great.
All right, three votes and I have done it. The problem is, I have now looked up the Kasper dress Clarissa bought and I like it, too. But it’s black. There is, however, this one in navy blue and by a Scandinavian designer: http://www.dillards.com/product/Peter-Nygard-Day-to-Night-Tank-Dress_301_-1_301_501833062?rr=true … good to know this brand name, too.
You can never have too many red dresses or black dresses. You can also never have too many outfits that look great on you.
Well then, I am going to look for that Nygaard one when I get a chance. I have looked more artistic the past decade, but it seems that I now want to look more classic again.
And — the red one is a no, it isn’t a really good red, and the material isn’t really the same cloth as the black one, and it is ostensibly the same pattern but is not cut exactly the same. Thickness of material + bulkiness of cut = not nearly as good.
(Remind me not to buy clothes on the Internet, it turns out this way when it is something I have tried on in real life — I don’t believe myself when the one I get turns out not to fit since I have another ostensibly the same, so I wear it a couple of times and am really dissatisfied, and then it is too late to send back. I will take this to tailor and treat it with love, but this is my report.)
