Observe my partial inventory:
1 serious bicycle with heavy lock
1 serious kayak with good life jacket and high quality paddle
1 AWD vehicle with manual transmission, good luggage space, and kayak rack
1 good pair running shoes
1 high quality backpacking tent
1 Kelty pack and many additional camping accessories
1 down sleeping bag rated viable down to 5 degrees Fahrenheit
I tend to think of these things as regular equipment every middle class person has, but is that accurate?

Well, I have the sleeping bag and the running shoes, but it has been many years since I went camping and I have never kayaked. Sir John used to, but I think he rented equipment rather than owning it.
The kayak is a little extreme, but a sign of realizing one lives in Louisiana is acquiring some form of boat.
I don’t think I know anybody who possesses any of these items except the shoes. 🙂
