Summer

Our Mexico program did not make, so my summer in Mexico funded by three weeks of intensive teaching at the beginning is not going to take place in the planned form. I am disappointed because I want to make being in the DF a regular activity.

I just lost a long post due to a WordPress systems error. In it, I was looking at summer plans, budget and how to fund. I will not reconstruct details, but writing it out did allow me to consider some good options.

1. I want to go somewhere right after finals in May. It was to have been Mexico but without funding I cannot see doing this. I can go to Austin. I can go directly to the library and swimming in Barton Springs, and write, and be back for two more weeks of writing by June 1.

2. I want to go to California and there is an interesting SF rental which is available in August.

3. I should read the AP examination June 2-8, the money is worth it and will make things possible.

4. I will apply to an NEH institute but I am not sure this is the best plan financially, if they want one to add any of one’s own funds to what they are paying.

5. There are triangle fares Maringouin-California-Mexico which cost $1000. This is in contrast to $883 Maringouin-DF, $706 Maringouin-Veracruz (but then consider bus costs to DF, they are more than you may think), and $529 Maringouin-SF. If I do not go to the NEH institute I could grade the AP exam, take that money and go to both California and Mexico. It would cover the flight and the DF rent. I would spend the same money to eat as I do here, and there would be some of my tax refund money as a cushion.

Axé.
