The neoliberalism connection

These changes constitute “reforms” in the way that school closings in poor communities have been dubbed “education reform,” or the way in which Reagan’s tax cuts for the super-wealthy were championed as “tax reform.” Early advocates of the prison system—the folks who brought us solitary confinement in the first place—called themselves “reformers,” too.

And, by the way, I so, so want to be working on the prison industrial complex. I want it to be my professional focus. Lots of other things are fine but I so, so wish I could have gone to law school. Especially when I read anything related to my true field it is hard to concentrate on things other than the LSAT, the hybrid jobs, the interesting research and activism I could do, the op-eds I could write, the cases I could argue; I would be so incredibly good at this.

Axé.
