It has been gray, rainy, and freezing – yes, below zero centigrade – for several days, and even the cat is disheartened. I did not take pictures on my voyage south, but someone else made a very similar trip, and has kindly provided us with this video. I classify it as a song.
Axé.
Lovely music. Is it a thousand miles of coastline?
Total coastline is 6,435 km, which is about 4,200 miles! Alaska has the most Pacific Coast miles, at 5,580. California has 1,340 miles. Mexico has about 1,600 kilmeters, or 1,000 miles.
The Peru/Chile border is about as far south of the Equator as the Mexico/Guatemala border is north. Santiago is 33 degrees south (about as far south as L.A. is north), and Punta Arenas is 53 degrees south (compare Vancouver, B.C., at 49 degrees north, and Juneau, Alaska, at 58 degrees north).
Thus, for a rough idea, we could say that if you started in very southern Mexico … then you kept going, all through Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington, all the way to the top of Vancouver Island … that would be like traveling the length of the coast of Chile!
Great video. Makes me want to visit.
What a wonderful song. Thank you.
This transported me!
