Our friend César Chávez, one of the very greatest of all Americans, was born March 31, 1927. He lived to be 66, but he would be 82 today. It is so like him to have been born in spring. Axé, César.

I knew he’d be kind and small, and eat everything. And be genuine. Mexico is the best country.
(My first independent action was leafleting the Goleta, CA Safeway for the UFW grape boycott. I was so small that nobody harassed me. It was a very successful action.)
