México lindo y herido

This weblog does not support and is not now discussing PORFIRIO DIAZ, but is amazed to have located his actual voice, speaking to THOMAS EDISON. You can tell that Mexico has technology because you can find so much original footage of so many relatively early events so easily.

Today, as we know, we celebrate a victory of MEXICO against its invader, FRANCE. Mexico had already lost half its territory to the UNITED STATES, so it really needed this victory. All of this took place AFTER Independence and BEFORE the Mexican Revolution. And there is a great deal more to say about MEXICO.

BENITO JUAREZ was ZAPOTEC. He is now 204 years old. He can speak Spanish. (Does this make him “Hispanic?”) Before becoming President of Mexico, he was driven into exile in NEW ORLEANS. He was later supplied with 30,000 muskets from BATON ROUGE to help fight off the French.

At this time the President of the United States was ABRAHAM LINCOLN. The Confederate States of America also made overtures to BENITO JUAREZ, but he put their delegation in a Mexico City jail. Eventually he also had the HAPSBURG EMPEROR OF MEXICO installed by FRANCE removed and shot. He was a serious person.

Nineteenth century relationships between the UNITED STATES and MEXICO are truly fascinating. Mexico itself is complicated and very interesting, and many people do not realize this at all. But we will go ahead and eat that prickly pear, even if it sticks our hand.

We will sing now and ask questions later. You are a May cat and I am a Louisiana Creole from Veracruz, Ver., Mex. I work offshore and the Gulf is filling with oil as we speak, yet we are enjoying life.

Axé.
