And that is exactly it. I flashed on a conversation with my very first neighbor in my very first Southern city, a Southerner himself; he is the one who raised and articulated the issue.
He talked about the early age at which children already become filled with a lifetime’s worth of hostility here; how you can see when it has happened, how it influences their stances and the look in their eyes.
