The upshot

So I was reelected by a landslide to that position, and my candidate for co-chair lost by a 3% margin. This puts me in a toxic situation for the next two years given the counterpart with whom I have been saddled and given that a majority of the committee we serve voted for that person.

If I resign there will be resentment but if I do not, it will be worse. I have already told a few people of my plans to resign but I have not done it yet — it is coming next week. Blog readers, you have a job: do not let me get talked into staying — it would be a bad idea.

You should see my Facebook status, it is blistering.

Axé.

  1. Resign! You greatly appreciate the confidence of your supporters, but it is important that the committee be able to work well together, and so a change in leadership seems desirable.

Don’t saddle yourself with two years of toxicity. Life’s too short.

  2. Yes. It doesn’t seem like you can afford this position. Better to resign.

  3. So I have resigned already — we are turning into a campus like Rebel Girl’s and it is time to hide out. I should have waited and alleged family illness but I could not stand to wait and so resigned alleging overwork which is more true.

    1. And my classes. I have been replaced, thank God, and this President wants the three of us, my replacement, her and me to meet immediately to discuss the transition. I said no to that, too! I have other work to do and it will be infinitely easier for me and the replacement to meet ourselves, and there is the whole summer to do it in, after finals … these people from Education, who are constantly telling us how to teach, obviously do not teach!
