One more post about how professors are assholes…and also inexperienced, immature, and supercilious jerks

“Take a job, any job. If you do not like it, that means you are not a serious scholar and not cut out to be a professor.” But one of my other friends said today, “Nothing negatively affects one’s life more than a job one does not like.” That is a commonly known fact but in academia one is not allowed to think it.

Instead one is browbeaten and berated for wanting access to the research resources one needs to do one’s job, and also for having any interests outside work. One is especially despised if one can imagine doing anything with one’s degree besides being a professor.

The people who are the meanest about this, about how you should sacrifice and sacrifice, are those who have no idea what sacrifice is. They have moved away from their state of origin, yes. But they have not moved away from access to research resources, they have not renounced their own lives, they have never sacrificed the way they say the rest of us must do to prove “seriousness.”

It reminds me of those witch tests. Sink someone in water and if they die, they were not a witch. If they float, they are a witch and you can burn them at the stake. I really, really, really spit on the professors who go on at people like this and I cannot respect their work.

    1. Hattie, thank you! I am not worse than usual, I am just saying so. Or I am a little worse because I am having a Maringouin reentry crisis. I am really afraid of the mistreatment from the university that could be about to come.
