This is the song, and you should listen to it, tu le ton son ton. Tiempo tiempo. Everyone wants more time time time, all the ton son ton, and thinks that if they could only manage their time time time, everything would be done in Time.
Every task I did today seemed burdensome and difficult because I did not have enough time, so rather than find ways be more efficient I decided to do the things as I would if I were not worried about time. It made everything so much more pleasant.
The fact is that we do not have enough time, and no amount of saying we should be able to do more Things with less time will change this — it only obscures the source of the malaise.
I want to be efficient about many things, however, because although I know how I would do them if I had enough time I am also not enough interested in them to put in that much time.
We are reading poetry and essays next in my classes, taking a break from narrative, and suddenly I find my interest mounting and my time using itself more efficiently.
This is why your teaching should reflect your research interests. And I may say my current research interests are this or that, but it is when we work on poetry, and essays on poetics, that time and work flow.
Tu m’a gain loin ici
Dans les rangs des cannes
Tous les temps en temps
Je vais voir ma ‘tite femmeHey Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey hey
Hey hey hey hey
Hey hey hey hey
Tous les temps en temps
Je vais voir ma ‘tite femmeHey toi
Quoi m’a faire moi tout seul
Hey toi là-bas
And that is a song by Clifton, of course.
