I am trying to find out where to buy this film by Juan Carlos Valdivia. I saw it in Mexico and did not realize when I went in that the actors and director were in the audience and would reveal themselves at the end, and take questions.
From what I gather now, some viewers resent the film – the issues it treats are “tired” and the treatment is “pornographic.” I am guessing it hits a nerve.
Axé.
Interesting, and what beautiful cinematography. I came here (very mistakenly, ha) thinking this post would be a review of La Zona, having confused the names.
I might be way off, but Is this meant to be just before Morales?
Yes!
Oh good, I’ve kept my hairstyles and societal upheavals straight. I will have to see this.
It’s from 2009; I saw it in 2010. I’ve just discovered Netflix lists it, but points out it hasn’t yet been released on DVD.
“In La Paz, Bolivia, the members of an upper-class family go about their lives in contented luxury, unaware of the vast social changes that are about to upend their decadent existence and send their world into a downward tailspin. Writer-director Juan Carlos Valdivia crafts a nuanced tale of disparate social classes coexisting behind a veneer of peace and tranquility until greater forces conspire to bring reality crashing down.”
Cast: Ninón del Castillo, Pascual Loayza
Director: Juan Carlos Valdivia
Thanks for the information. I have “saved it” in my account.
