I can’t seem to comment on my other post so I will say here:

1. What the grievance guy said: yes, the chair should be chair to the whole department and yes, you should say these things to him;
2. All of Spanish, and the French graduate students, suffer from the practices of the elite-French, and they are the ones who need us if their lifestyle is to be maintained;
3. Therefore, they had better not act in such a way as to get their PhD program and our major cancelled.
