Mazzotti

I hadn’t paid attention to him so far, and I am missing an interesting reading of some of his work in an interesting venue right now, but at least missing this reading has brought him to my attention, so at least there is that. I should get his Amazonian poems and use them in my rainforest class, and for my book, his on limeños. They apparently came up with a sense of national identity that was pre-national and wasn’t nation-building (the subtitle is Epica y nación criolla).

I should also get Francine’s books—these and The Senses of Democracy. Her interests are more like mine than I recognize.

JALLA 2026 is in Arequipa and I might have considered going there. I should watch for JALLA 2028, I keep missing them.
ACLA 2027 is in Houston May 20-23 (no theme that I can find) – portal for seminar proposals opens June 15 – and it’s where a Moro-like proposal might fit, but really I need to be putting in pieces of Gabilondo, Moro is a bagatelle
IILI 2027 is in Gotemburgo June 9-12 (archivos, poder, y espacios de resistencia) – deadline November 15, and it’s where a Gabilondo-like proposal (race, ethnicity, colonialismo) would fit
LASA 2027 is in México June 16-20 (navegar el colapso: reinventar la política, cuidar lo común) – deadline when?
ICA 2027 is in Medellín July 5-9 (tradition and innovation: memories of the Americas) – deadline for seminarios July 6, and for ponencias individuales December 31

Gabilondo says decoloniality is too invested/stuck in European thought. Is this true of DaSilva?

Finally, my assignment is how not to collaborate in my own destruction—and how not to be bamboozled by internalizing or internalized metrics, which are not used in good faith.

Also note, from my thoughts around that DeGiovanni book: my Vallejo problem was that a lot criticism on him was caught in a paradigm about what América had to mean, and I and everyone were caught in poststructuralism, and then the project got caught in post-colonialism and counter-hegemony. Of course it was impossible then, for these reasons and more.

For the students, here’s another piece on generative AI. So now we have two on generative AI and three from Sánchez Prado, if we include his piece on the notebook assignment.

Axé.
